Lead-acid battery
Energy Storage in Buildings, A Technology Overview (BG 73/2018), written by John Piggott and published by BSRIA in March 2018, sates: ‘The traditional type of battery still used in most cars is the lead-acid battery. The two chemicals in the battery are, as the name suggests, solid lead and liquid sulphuric acid. They can give off hydrogen gas when recharging and also carry the risk of acid leaks if their case is damaged. Most modern versions of this battery are known as valve regulated lead-acid (VRLA) batteries. These are sealed to prevent gas escaping during recharging.’
